MINISTRY OF
CARE TO THE SICK, ELDERLY AND BEREAVED
Purpose/Responsibilities:
To visit and to distribute communion to parishioners who are sick and
elderly at home, in hospitals and nursing homes; to support bereaved
families and help with funeral arrangements and the funeral mass. This
ministry also counsels those in a crisis situation, offers encouragement, a
food pantry and referrals to appropriate agencies.
Time/Skills:
Flexible time commitment. Volunteers needed, teens and older, who are
compassionate and dedicated. Orientation provided.

DE LOS ENFERMOS, MAYORES Y AFLIGIDOS
Visita y
distribuye la comunión a los feligreses que están enfermos y de edad
avanzada en casa, en hospitales y asilos; apoyan a las familias que han

Purpose/Responsibilities:
To provide blood pressure evaluations, nursing home and home visits, and
health-related events.
Time/Skills:
Meets monthly on third Thursday at 7 pm. Active RN/LPN license required.

ELIZABETH MINISTRY
Purpose/Responsibilities:
Inspired by the story of Mary and Elizabeth and their support for one
another during pregnancy; to serve families experiencing the joy of
childbirth or the sorrow of difficult pregnancy, miscarriage or infant
death. To support families during the childbearing years
Time/Skills:
Flexible time commitment. Meets on the 2nd Thursday of the month
from 9:30 -11:00 a.m. in the Community Room. Volunteers needed who are
compassionate and supportive. Training is provided.

the months October-June, 7:00 p.m. at San José Manor.

Thursday 3:30 – 4:45 PM. While this ministry is weekly, volunteers
currently rotate and serve one time per month.

experience necessary, but must be over 12 years old.

SAN JOSE SOCIAL JUSTICE COMMITTEE
Purpose/Responsibilities:
The San Jose Social Justice Committee will foster and encourage greater
parish awareness and involvement with Catholic Social Justice teachings &
issues through the organization/ promotion of multi-cultural Social Justice
prayer efforts & educational activities It will also provide multi-cultural
support of Parish/Diocesan/Community Social Justice programs.
Time/Skills:
The Committee currently meets on the 2nd Saturday of every
month from
8:45 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. in the parish office. Committee participation is
open to San Jose parishioners with a desire to address systems of injustice,
which adversely impact the marginalized and less fortunate members of our
community.

mañana en la oficina de parroquia. La participación en el comité está
abierta a los feligreses de San José que deseen ayudar a corregir sistemas
injustos, que impactan adversamente a los marginados y menos afortunados en
nuestra comunidad.

SISTER PARISH
Purpose/Responsibilities:
To provide support in all aspects of stewardship, including visits, work
days, fund raisers and spiritual support.
Time/Skills:
Members visit our sister parish throughout the year. We do not meet on a
regular schedule but do meet when projects are active. Open to all who
would like to help. No deed goes unnoticed.

ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE
Purpose/Responsibility: The mission of ESL is to provide free English classes to any
non-English speaking adult who wishes to learn. Students learn to speak,
read and write English. They also learn U.S culture. We welcome volunteers
and donations.

No foreign language or previous teaching necessary.

This is a prayer ministry

A new ministry is now
forming to focus on the development and formation of many more ongoing
“Small Faith Communities” at
San José.
A few are already formed. The premise is simple. Parishioners gather
periodically (preferably in each other’s homes) to reflect on the next
Sunday’s readings as they get to know one other better. If you are
interested in getting to know other San José Parishioners while growing in
your faith, this is the ministry for you!

ROAD
TO FINANCIAL FREEDOM
Purpose/Responsibilities:
To Explain God's Teaching on the "Other 90%" of your money. God wants us
to thrive here on earth. He talks about money 3,125 times in the bible,
laying out a complete blue print on saving, investing, managing and spending
the money. If you follow God's plan you cannot help but succeed!!
Time/Skills:
The course is offered once or twice each year. When offered, the course
meets once per week for 10 weeks. Participants have "homework" to prepare
for next session. For “graduates” wishing to facilitate, training is
provided.

SPANISH PRAYER GROUP: GOD IS GOOD...ALL THE TIME!
Purpose/Responsibility: We gather primarily to give praise
and thanks to God for His goodness to us. Though studying the bible,
singing God's praises and sharing our personal testimonies of God's action
in our lives, we strive to better serve God and His community, the Church.
! We are confident that every person who comes to our group has a special
gift that the Lord will call forth for His praise and service.
Time/Skills:
Our prayer group meets every Thursday night at
8:00pm in the Guadalupe Chapel. In addition to our weekly
meeting, we offer a Holy Hour every first Friday from 8:00pm-9:00pm
(Adoration Chapel) and a Healing Mass (Guadalupe Chapel) every third Friday
from 8:00pm-9:30pm. We also host days of reflection and retreats throughout
the liturgical year.

THE
MUSE MINISTRY OF DREAMWEAVERS
Purpose/Responsibilities:
Our Muse Ministry is a group of creative, visionary women who are involved
in planning multi-cultural events, both large and small, for our parish
family. Their mission is to seek out all the many gifts and talents and
interests of our parish members and find creative ways to use and share
them. To enhance our parish by inspiring its members to share the rich
heritage and customs of the many cultures that make up the San Jose Faith
Community.
Time/skills:
Muses meet approximately once a month on Sunday afternoon. Skills? To come
up with not just “good ideas”, but “God ideas” that will bring everyone
together to share their respective faith stories, songs, poetry, talents,
customs, gifts to create both social, spiritual events throughout the year.

Nuestro Ministerio Muse es un grupo creativo, de mujeres con visión que

In the gospel of John,
Jesus describes the Church as a community of friends. In response to Jesus’
invitation, our San Jose Friendship Committee offers the Spanish-speaking
members of our community an opportunity to learn more about each other and
the gospel message in an informal and warm setting. We meet every second
Friday of the month in the Community Room. Each meeting includes
interactive faith-sharing, time for conversation and community building, and
great food! New friends are waiting to embrace you with love.

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL
Purpose/Responsibilities:
A one week ministry for all children ages rising Pre-K through 5th
grade held during the summer. This program proclaims the good news of Jesus
and is run by volunteers who teach, assist, provide snacks and arrange
activities/crafts for the spiritual enrichment of the children.
Time/Skills:
One week in June from
9:00-12:00 noon, plus
planning time for teachers. Many adults and youth from 6th
grade and up are needed.

Este

Classes meet Wednesday evenings from
7:00–8:00 p.m. Special
classes for immediate preparation for the sacraments are held on specific
Saturday mornings or Sunday afternoons. Catechists and teachers aides,
substitute teachers are always needed. Your willingness to serve is the
only requirement.

RITE
OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF ADULTS AND CHILDREN
Purpose/Responsibilities:
To provide formation in the Catholic faith in preparation for the sacraments
of Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist; to provide opportunities for
scriptural reflection, study of Church teachings, celebration of rituals,
prayer, social gatherings and service with the parish community.
Time/Skills:
Weekly sessions on Sunday morning. Sessions for adults are 9:30am-11:30am
and sessions for children are between
10:30am-12:30pm, with dismissal of candidates during the
10:30 a.m. Mass. Open to
adults and children over age 7. Volunteers needed to sponsor candidates.
Sponsors need only to have a willingness to share the joys of living the
life of a practicing Catholic.

Meets Wednesday evenings, 7:00 – 8:00 pm in the community room. Booklets
are available with all presenters and topics for the year.

lessons to 3 and 4 year olds during the 10:30 a.m. Mass.
Time/Skills:
Approximately 1 hour and 30
minutes each Sunday during the school year. Training provided.
Teacher, Aides, craft people and receptionist are needed.

CHILDREN’S LITURGY OF THE WORD
Purpose/Responsibilities:
To celebrate the Word by proclaiming from the Children’s Lectionary to
children, kindergarten-4th grade. To encourage children to reflect on what
they have heard and on how they may use The Word in their daily lives with
their family, friends and community.
Time/Skills:
While this ministry is weekly, September through May, during the Celebration
of the Liturgy at the 10:30 a.m. Mass, leaders serve once a month or as
needed. Orientation is available for leaders. Youth volunteers, 8th
grade and older are welcomed to assist with the children.

3 Saturday retreats. Training/materials provided. Willingness to share your
spiritual journey & relate to youth.

individuals or couples who are spiritually motivated and can envision where
stewardship can take the parish.

HIGH SCHOOL & MIDDLE SCHOOL YOUTH MINISTRY
Purpose/Responsibilities:
Youth Ministry is
the response of the Christian community to the needs of young people and the
sharing of the unique gifts of youth with the larger community.
Youth Ministry is TO
youth when it draws on the resources and gifts of the adult community to
provide opportunities for growth. Some of the areas in which adults could do
that are in organized sports activities such as flag football games and
baseball tournaments, camping opportunities, drama productions, fundraisers,
community service or action for justice (SPLUNGE).
Youth ministry is WITH
youth because young people share with adults the responsibility to carry out
the church’s mission. Ministry with youth occurs when they participate as
members of parish councils, serve as lectors, catechists and extraordinary
ministers of the Eucharist and share with adults the responsibilities for
community service or action for justice.
Youth ministry is FOR
youth in that adults attempt to interpret the needs of youth and act as
advocates in articulating their concerns to the church and the wider
community.
