2021 – 2022 Family Faith Formation Handbook

A FAMILY OF FAITH PROGRAM

A Family of Faith religious education program at San Jose Catholic Church focuses on creating a community of strong Catholic families where children encounter Christ and learn the truths of the faith through the witness of parents and family life.

PROGRAM GOALS

  • To encourage and equip parents to fulfill their God-given duty and privilege of educating their children in the Catholic faith.
  • To support and nurture strong Catholic families who reflect the Blessed Trinity.
  • To provide parents the opportunity for continued growth in the Faith.
  • To build community and celebrate Catholic life together through common prayer, service to others, social activities, and liturgical celebrations.

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

  1. Adults meet once/month on Wednesday evening for catechesis on the month’s lesson.
  2. During the month, families will incorporate learning about the faith through discussions, activities, and prayers provided in the parent guides and children’s activity books.
  3. All families gather once a month for community-oriented events, such as a parish picnic, holiday celebrations, service projects, and special family Masses and dinners.
  4. Those students eligible to receive sacraments will meet twice a month for additional sacrament preparation.  Information for these classes is available on the sacrament registration form.

PARENTS ONLY MEETING ON WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 1ST 7PM PARISH HALL

“In all families the Good News needs to resound, in good times and in bad, as a source of light along the way. All of us should be able to say, thanks to the experience of our life in the family: “We come to believe in the love that God has for us” (1 Jn. 4:16)”.

–Pope Francis, Amoris Laetitia

Confirmation & First Eucharist

The Sacraments of First Reconciliation (Confession), First Eucharist (Communion), and Confirmation are joyous celebrations for our entire parish community.  As a family, preparing your child to become more fully initiated into the Catholic Church is a sacred time to share the beauty and power of our faith.  The San Jose Sacramental Preparation program includes classes twice a month in addition to the family faith formation program, as well as retreats and other spiritual experiences.

Per diocesan policy, in order to be eligible to receive one of the above sacraments, your child must participate in two consecutive years of religious education in a parish program.  The forms to register your child can be found on this page.

Volunteering

If you love sharing your faith and you would enjoy accompanying our children on their faith journey, we invite you to consider volunteering with our Religious Education program.
